Brezilya doğumlu bir din adamı ve mucit olan Bartolomeu Lourenço de Gusmão'nun (Santos, 1685 - Toledo, 1724) ilk havacılık icadının temsili. İcatları Avrupa'da genellikle kuş şeklinde bir tekne olarak sunulan hayali çizimlerle tanıtıldığında kendisine "Planör" gibi aşağılayıcı bir lakap takıldı. Bu icat Passarola ("Büyük Kuş") olarak tanındı.
