This banknote is the first commemorative circulating issued at Uruguay, and also the first using polymer material. Was created to celebrate the 50th. Anniversary of creation of the Banco Central del Uruguay (Central Bank of Uruguay - BCU) on 1967, and from that moment took the responsibility to issue coins and banknotes, as well as to control all the financial systems in the country. BCU took the duties from Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay (Eastern Uruguay Republic Bank - BROU), which kept duties of financial and promotional bank.

Signatures are from Elizabeth Oria, General Secretary, and Mario Bergara Duque, President. Oria was the only woman signing an Uruguayan banknote.

The painting "Construcción Portuaria" (Port Composition) was made by Walter Deliotti, on the wall of the main lobby of the bank, using Torres García's symbols (Constructivism), as he was Torres' disciple. It shows stylized buildings of the zone, and elements that were common at the moment, like the top of a ship, bus of a late company and locomotive, all very commonly seen at a port zone, where the Bank building is placed.

Were printed 10 million banknotes, and there are no official reposition issues, but since exist notes with serials over 10 million, they are considered as reposition between collectors.
