Bjørnstjerne Martinius Bjørnson (1832 - 1910) was a Norwegian writer who received the 1903 Nobel Prize in Literature. Also contributed lyrics to the Norwegian National Anthem, "Ja, vi elsker dette landet".
Coat of arms a lion rampant bearing an axe which was a symbol of Saint Olaf, i.e. King Olaf II, symbolising that the King was the rightful heir and descendant of the "Eternal King of Norway" (Latin: Rex Perpetuus Norvegiae).
Borgund Stave Church - classified as a triple nave stave church of the so-called Sogn-type. One of the best preserved of Norway's 28 extant stave churches.
