(en) Local Spanish Civil War banknotes: Created by municipalities, cooperatives, unions and other organizations due to the scarcity of fiduciary currency in small purchases and exchanges during the Spanish Civil War.

NOTE: In August 1936, the Vizcaya Defense Board ordered the issuance of bearer checks against current accounts of the Bank of Spain, with the values ​​of 5, 25, 50 and 100 Pesetas and dated 1936. It was confirmed by a Decree of the Provisional Government of Euzkadi (Basque Country) on October 21, 1936.
Despite the prohibition of the Republican Government, the Government of Euzkadi (Basque Country) through its Treasury Department published on April 16, 1937 an order with the issuance of new banknotes, destined to withdraw those that were in circulation. These checks and banknotes were compulsory tender in the territory of the Government of Euzkadi (Basque Country) and were useful for all kinds of payments. Its falsification was punished with the maximum penalty. The issue was set at 130 million pesetas.
On some banknotes there is a stamp in blue ink with the coat of arms of Euzkadi, in the center of a circle with the legend "Government of Euzkadi. Treasury. Euzkadi-ko-Jauriaritza".
The issuing entities were: Banco de Bilbao, Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad Municipal de Bilbao, Caja de Ahorros Vizcaína, Banco Central, Banco del Comercio, Banco Guipuzcoano, Banco Hispano Americano, Banco Urquijo Vascongado and Banco de Vizcaya.
