Ain Shams Üniversitesi Temmuz 1950'de İbrahim Paşa Üniversitesi adı altında, Mısır'ın mezhepsel olmayan üçüncü en eski devlet üniversitesi olarak kurulmuştur (Kahire'deki El-Ezher gibi eski İslam üniversiteleri daha eskidir).
