Georges Nélis (Halle (B), 22 May 1886 – Ixelles (B), 2 March 1929) was a Belgian aviation pioneer. He was the first Belgian serviceman to obtain a military pilot’s licence. He was also the founder and director of Sabena, SNETA (Syndicat National d'Etude des Transports Aériens - National Syndicate for the Study of Air Transport), and SABCA (Société Anonyme Belge de Constructions Aéronautiques - Belgian Corporation for Aeronautical Constructions), and is therefore regarded as the “father of Belgian aviation.”
