These notes bear Special Identification Markings ("war codes"), consisting of a coloured letter inside a circle which were added to the design as part of the underprint in the upper left and bottom right of the obverse. These were used on notes printed during World War II to keep track of notes when they were being transported from the printers in the United Kingdom in case of losses due to bombing.

Three letters appear on these notes, N (black), R (red), M (brown).
