Historical context:

This issue is often called the exchange notes, and they were put into circulation from 9 September 1945. Work on the design began in 1944 and had to be done in secret. The notes were meant to be a crisis issue that could be produced quickly, and the idea was that they should be replaced with notes of higher artistic and technical quality as soon as possible. The series has no 500 kroner note.

The design is the same as the 1000 krone of the 2nd issue, but is in brown, and with an overstamp over the word "guld" ("gold", originally meaning the note was redeemable in gold, this had been permanently suspended).

Numbers printed:

The total issued was 504 000 notes, making it an extremely rare modern issue.

Auction notes:

Difficult to find in UNC as all notes were folded vertically twice before leaving Norges bank. 1945 is the commoner year, starting at USD 1100 in Good, AU notes fetching about USD 5000. 1947 is rare and should be reported to the census.
