Recent studies and archeological sites have shown the existence of a special coin for circulation in the Canaries.

A license ( May 10th, 1513) from “Registro General del Sello”,  explains clearly the technical data:  "de una parte llevarían el yugo y de la otra, las saetas, con una ley igual al resto de monedas de vellón”.  Also this licence explains the order of minting coins for this territory.

For this coin the mint house used the same stamp as ½ Real, but in this case billon instead of silver and the value of a maravedi, as the previous license express. 

This coin is known as canarian maravedi type 1. .
