(fr) HISTOIRE :
CONSTANTIN Ier LE GRAND (307-337) est né en 274, fils de Constance Chlore et d'Hélène. Il est nommé césar à la mort de son père le 25 juillet 306 et est proclamé auguste le 25 décembre 307. Il épouse Fausta, la fille de Maximien Hercule, qui lui donnera cinq enfants dont trois augustes. Les vingt premières années de son règne sont consacrées à s'imposer comme principal auguste contre Maximien Hercule, Galère, Maxence, Maximin II et Licinius. Il est reconnu comme le premier empereur chrétien, bien que baptisé seulement sur son lit de mort le 22 mai 337.

À partir de 325 apparaît un nouveau type de légende de revers pour l'Empire réunifié dédié à la Providence.
