Series: Coats of Arms of Cities, Provinces, Regions & Townships

Obverse

(en) The city's coat of arms is displayed against a special backdrop reflecting the city's history:

A brick tower with battlements on top alludes to the city's historical role as a fortress, a protected point with city walls and towers.
The ears on the sides symbolize its agricultural orientation.

Reverse

(en) In the center is the Coat of Arms of the Moscow Province and an inscription along the edge of the medal.

The coat of arms of the Moscow Province was approved in the 18th–19th centuries and replicated the main symbol of Moscow (Saint George), but in a simplified, "provincial" version. Shield, crown, and branches are a classic composition for provincial coats of arms.
