Leoni bu madalyayı kürek mahkûmiyetinden kurtulduğu için bir şükran ifadesi olarak kazıtmıştır. Pietro Aretino, Leoni'lerin koruyucusu V. Charles'ın ricası üzerine Andrea Doria'dan harekete geçmesini ve 1541'de Cenova'da Leoni'lerin kurtuluşu için adına çalıştığı Papa Clement VII'den lütuf elde etmesini istedi.
