During the Weimar Republic’s hyperinflation crises of 1923, existing notes were locally revalidated and over-stamped with higher denominations.

 

This 1,000,000 Mark notgeld was initially issued in 1922 as a 50 Mark note, (https://en.numista.com/284373) and was valid for only “Two months after announcement.

 

However, on the 18th of August 1923, the note’s original face-value of 50 Mark was multiplied by 20,000 to “Eine Million Mark” and revalidated. 

The over-stamp was applied directly to the 50 Mark type of 1922.
