Les monnaies divisionnaires ou monnaies noires sont rares avec leur argenture. Le liard, ou pièce de trois deniers, était au départ une espèce typiquement dauphinoise. Le liard royal a été créé par l'ordonnance du 18 septembre 1467. Pour Charles VIII, nous avons deux émissions en 1483 et 1488. La seconde émission se distingue de la première par la croix cantonnée au revers.
