This is the third and final in the "Animals on Irish Coins" series, which features animals that were previously depicted on old Irish coins.
This series is dedicated to the hound. The Irish wolfhound is a breed of domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris), specifically a sighthound. Its name derives from its purpose (wolf hunting), rather than its appearance; it is one of the tallest dogs.
