Quote: "COINMAN1"Many years ago, when I was 14 years old, I did a paper round, and had to deliver papers to some very nice houses.
One particular customer always wanted his paper pushed all the way through his letterbox. One day, I forgot to do this, and I was rebuked. From then on, I never forgot to do it.
The week before Christmas, the gentleman, again came out of his house, and I thought I was in for another telling off.
To my surprise, he gave me my Christmas tip, which was a 10/- (10 shilling) banknote. I was stunned as I only earned that every week.
The banknote is P-368c
I still have that banknote, and it is actually the first banknote in my collection.
I was 14 years old at the time, which is actually 54 years ago
Interesting anecdote "Coinman1"
I really like the design of the
10 Shilling P-368c and the other notes from the 1928-1960 Britannia series. I started collecting banknotes when I was 16 (about 42 years ago) and had my first job at a carwash. (I also had a paper route but never had that type of dough to squirrel away an actual banknote!) At the carwash job, I saw a few older
1954 $20 in the mid to late 70's pass through my hands & always hoped I'd snag a "
Devil's Face" which never happened. The "new" Multicolour series was replacing the older 54's and I was happy to find a few
Two Dollar notes with asterisks (decades later learning these were replacements). Several times I nearly spent those hard earned banknotes but managed to save the majority (& later trade or sell up on eBay).
