Quote: "Serial_Number_8"Nice add Aidan. Just last week we were discussing how AU & UNC 10 & 20 Pound notes are unheard of (scarce or non existant) in the WW2 series (but I think this goes right into the 50-60's) on the Collector's Universe forum. I think EF+ is about as the best you can find.
Yes, high grade Irish notes in the higher denominations prior to 1970 are really tough. Congrats!
You should invite those on Collector's Universe to join up here.
Irish banknotes dated after 18 April 1949 do belong in a collection of British Commonwealth banknotes, even though the Republic of Ireland is not currently a member state of the Commonwealth.
There is a possibility that one day the Republic of Ireland will do like what South Africa did on 1 June 1994 - become a republic inside the Commonwealth.
Ireland was in a de-facto currency union with the U.K. until 1979 - when the peg of the Irish Pound to the Pound Sterling was cut.
Aidan.
