Hi guys,

I just want to get a survey to know what coins does the numismatic community collects. 😊
Mostly coins before 1900. Hate modern stuff.
Also collect UK Conder tokens. [1787-1797]
Also collect French medallions.

One of each as examples >

I collect the opposite to ZacUK as I really stick to post 1900, but do have a few earlier than 1900.
My favourites are the crown sized, (38.6mm diameter), mostly which are issued to commemorate something, and are usually issued in sets ranging from 2 to 24 in the set.
Often these are not available complete, so the challenge is to complete it.
My latest challenge is a set from Tristan da Cunha commemorating the centenary of WW1. I have 13, but still 7 to get, so the search is on.
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.
For all you banknote collectors. Link to my swap list.

Mostly 19th-mid.20th century Europe, Middle East, Latin America, mostly silver,
but outside those bounds too whenever something appeals.
Jamais l'or n'a perdu la plus petite occasion de se montrer stupide. -Balzac
Early 16th to early 19th century European and new world crowns
I think my profile is visible. My themes are even earlier than AgIs, as 3 out of four of these ceased to exist by 1795:
1. Kingdom of Poland and Poland-Lithuania Commonwealth; nearby issuers like Silesia, Pomerania
2. Duchy of Brabant
3. Coins with images of Christian Saints
4. Duchy of Lorraine
I collect silver and gold. I am not picky. If I have a double, I use it for trade. I love the rarer stuff. Being in the US, I am kind of sick of US coins so I have been trading and buying more foreign. Doesn't matter how small. I would love to collect everything but I don't have the space for that addiction.
I collect almost everything, but if I have to choose:
1. South African - Union, Republic and ZAR
2. German - States and up to the modern Euro coins
3. My absolute favourite is German Notgeld
Ex-South African now living in Germany

I think I may have some funstuff for you.
I will send a PM tomorrow.
I'm collecting coins which generate questions. For example is the eagle below killing the snake
or are they travelling together (the snake would be also in a good position to bite the eagle)

Or:

Euboia / Greece

on the left side eagle and snake are travelling together on the right side the eagle is really killing the snake. What happened in the meantime?
Mostly South American proof coins, is what I'm into now.
coins which design i find subjectively too be "Cool" followed by passively collecting whatever really
Hi everyone
i collect any coin or token or medal linked to the history of the area where I live which is Compiègne, a small but ancient city 60 miles up north to Paris :`
1. Unified Germany Type coins (Wilhelm I - Euro)
2. Soviet Type coins
3. Modern Russian circulating commemoratives
4. US Type coins
5. Israeli type, including British Palestine
6. US modern commemoratives
7. British decimalized type
8. Example from every country
9. Indian Head cents
10. Lincoln Head cents
11. Mercury dimes
12. Numismatic books…

Also itemize and catalog anything else that lands in my lap. So if I find that I have accumulated a significant amount of a given set, I’ll take on trying to complete it. Possibilities are endless. And lately I’ve began to explore the uncharted territory of ancients, primarily Roman Imperial.

So to answer the question - everything.

British Empire & British Commonwealth - which includes Ireland, Somaliland, South Sudan, & Zimbabwe.

I absolutely refuse to collect anything from Cameroon, Mozambique, & Rwanda, as they are regarded as foreign.

I don't understand that last sentence, aren't all countries that aren't your own considered foreign?

I collect all the pieces that are considered coins: circulating, commemorative, non-circulating, exonumia. I also collect by types, years, mints and variants, in short, everything I can get and economically is within my reach.

Love the ancients. Silver especially and from the Roman Republic/Empire. Denarii are the tops.
I don't collect anything specific, but I do like European crown size silver coins such as French 5 franks, German states 5 marks, British Crowns- 925 and 500 silver, etc etc, plus any coin that looks interesting, just bought several 1947 & 1953 Panama 1 Balboas. Just started to get a few UK uncirculated year sets.

I think Aidan meant "foreign" in relation to the Commonwealth of Nations, because, although those three countries are members of the Commonwealth, they don't have previous colonial ties to the UK (if you disregard the former British Cameroon, that's only a tiny portion of the current Republic of Cameroon).

This is correct, as all the countries I collect were all part of the British Empire - & all have a common heritage, especially all have English as an official language, or English is in use as a linking language (as in Cyprus' case, where English is not an official language, but it is spoken there as a linking language).

hahaha, I love this ;-)

I basically collect everything... however, I an not really willing to spend a lot of money on international coins since I finished my goal to have all countries. At the moment my strong focus is on all German coins and banknotes (Notgeld and everything from 16th century until today)
There is a rather good coin shop in Lisbon beside the hotel I normally stay in, so recently started on portuguese and colonies, but anything silver prior to 1900 is always of interest
Of course, I am collecting Euros as well - only from Cyprus, Ireland, & Malta.

They also belong in a collection of British Commonwealth coins.

Aidan.
I collect only commemorative coins.
Mostly Post WW2.
I'm Obsessed with completing sets.
Europe offers a great opportunity. Pre - Euro Commemorative coins are a definitive set. As is the Soviet Union.

I have complete sets of USSR, Greece, Ireland, Estonia, Italy, etc.

Many other European countries I have all the non-precious commemorative coins. Portugal and France, for example.

Now I am currently fixated on 2 Euro sets.

Egypt are fascinating too.
