It's an important topic, & one of the reasons I suspect some collectors leave (& forget) their collections in some dark closet never to review or enjoy. So while you would hear me harp on about storing in a
dry (safe) environment, I think its also important to:
- buy a nice (attractive) coin album or binder with a number of PVC or acid free vinyl pages that have the # of flip inserts which suit your collection (you can also buy a regular binder and insert a nice custom cover if you understand/have access to Adobe photoshop or some such software).
- label your coins or have a 2nd sheet to show you've identified them (group them according to nation, denomination, year, whatever suits your fancy).
- always err on purchasing safe archive storage flips, coin tubes & new attractive storage folders/albums (rather than used/cheap/strictly functional)
- don't mount & frame banknotes unless they're inexpensive & you don't mind light damage (use mylar currency sleeves & try not to handle them much).
- take pride in your collection (the more you do so the better you will try to preserve them) & then this may lead you to some fruitful collector goals (& it can only get better from there)
