Hi,

Is anyone able to help me identify this coin ? i couldn’t seem to find a match between the front and back ….

size - approx 27mm

appearance - copper

one side dated 1255, which is somewhere around 1839-1840 ish, but the other side looks more modern ….. 1 or 10 milliemes ?

thanks very much

cheers

You could have tried “search by image” with your pictures. From the coin search page click the camera icon to the right of “add filter”.

Or just add filters for the information you know. Based on a year of 1255 and a denomination of 10 Somethings there are only nine results and the second seems like correct match.

I'm sorry but that's not correct. The second one is the 10 Para from Egypt. OP's coin is the 10 Para from the Ottoman Empire, the eighth coin in that list.

You can see the flower above the thugra on the obverse is different and also the lettering on the reverse (Constantinople versus Misr (Egypt)).
