Help to identify hammered French (?) coin - France, Charles VI, Double Tournois, 1421 [solved]

5 posts • viewed 74 times

Hi,

anyone out there able to help me identify this hammered coin ? I tried the visual match, and search on cross and Fleur de lis, but couldn’t find anything. I feel I should be able to make out the wording, but I can’t - hoping someone has more luck.

size - approx 25mm uneven

Silver / Billon

very thin

many thanks,

cheers

Maybe KAROLVS FRACORV REX in the first   second photo?  So I would check coins of this size under one of the French Charles

Thank you - does look like very similar …. Size is slightly out (22mm v 25mm) but guessing coin making was not an  exact science in the 15th century 😃

cheers
