Multiple lines for the same coin.

I mentiond this before under 2022 Peterson Dollars

Why are the  Canada Peterson coins split in 5 different groups? They are all the same coins except that one comes in a  "special wrap" another in a special “keepsake card”. Who cares?  In total 975000 coins were minted. (and none in proof)

We are not here to promote the mint. If every coin of every country gets treated this way you will have millions of extra lines.

Hope this gets normalized.

Now I see the same in other countries.

The 2001 Australian 1 Dollar KM 534 has a ridiculous 13 lines! Why not have a line for each of the 30.000.000 coins? (being facetious)

It causes lots of problems as on the swap list it will say that it is a coin you do not have but in reality you do. So you end up with doubles.

Instead of trusting the system to locate missing coins in your collection you now have to investigate each coin. That is too time consuming.

Please set a proper standard for this.

Not sure if a specific rule or guidance goes is against this, but if not, there should be.

Using year line variants for the packaging the coin came in, is not a good use of that option.

I don't care if it was attached to a red card, a blue card, came in a set of 3, or 5… if it's the same coin, it's the same coin.  If you collect sets and care about the packaging the coin came in, use public/private comments instead.

My thoughts exactly. As long as the coin is the same, there should be one year-line.

Different packages should be either ommited (as there's no end to comercialization) or mentioned in comments BELOW all the year-lines for the coin since for most collectors they aren't of interest.

This was already answered in https://en.numista.com/forum/topic124989.html

Looking at the number of members so far who did add these Rolls and Cards in their inventory, they are collectors of Special Wrap Roll and Keepsake Cards. They exist and are here to stay. They are happy to enter these in their inventory and I'm happy to help them do so. This way they will be be able to swap and inventory their treasures like anyone else here.

We will have to adapt to the new collectors ways of collecting or go play dinosaur.

I agree with you. New coin collectors like to see more information about the way a coin has been issued. I get requests to add PNC issues for Australian coins and special carded versions plus coins released by the Mint in Rolls. These have very different values than a standard issue. So I am also very happy to accommodate this.

I understand the old argument about once the coin is removed from it's coincard or other packaging etc it is just the same coin and where should it be input. Well just input it on whatever line you want.

Thanks Mike,

It's nice of you to speak out, I felt alone in this.

Hello, I hope I can give my opinion without anyone feeling upset.

First of all, I would like to highlight the incredible work carried out by the referees of Canada and Australia, to whom reference has been made on many occasions in relation to the type of broadcasts that are made in the countries of which they are referees. I have seen few pages in Numista as well prepared and with as much attention to detail as the ones they carry. CONGRATULATIONS!

Having said that, I think that the debate about whether the same coin (with different presentation formats) should have more than one year line is logical, since the subject of mints and their business with presentation formats is something relatively new and which not all of us agree with. It is rare that the same currency has several different lines (my opinion), and that sometimes leads to problems in swaps.

It is a question of criteria, not of questioning the work carried out with great professionalism. I understand that Numista, through its "management" team, should make a statement on the matter and decide what type of catalog or what criteria should be followed in these cases or seek a solution (if there is one), so that this type of debate can end with the best option for everyone.

I would also like to thank the users who expose this type of issues, since, with all certainty, they do so with the intention of having the best possible catalog (an issue that I think we are all achieving together).
