1976/78 Brazillian 10 Centavos - Date sizes [solved]

Has anyone else noticed the different size of the dates on Brizil's 10 Centavos coins from the late 1970s?

If there were different sizes of the date in the same year, then maybe they could be considered varieties. But these are different years

It would be interesting to find out exactly when the change in date size happened (1977 or 78), whether it fluctuates between date sizes,  whether it is a variation for one specific year, or if the variation occurs each year.  Also, what is the reason for this change?  It's quite clearly a different die, not simply wear, as the size and shape of the figures has changed.

Anybody collect coins from Brazil in quantity?

There were 6 years of issue for this type. All the dates are slightly different from each other, not just “large” and “small”.
