Bulgarian banknotes and coins

6 posts • viewed 378 times

Hello colleagues.

During my rest time I do various experiments.

For example: I want to prove the statement - that the most Bulgarian banknotes and coins are in Bulgaria.

(I have no proof for the claim that the most US dollars are in Asia 💰💸)

That's why I packed the whole family (to have someone to take care of me - an invalid), paid for the plane and everything on the spot and that's how I play.

I suspected it, but it's better to see it with your own eyes: the old and new "leva" differ in protective elements.

The son brings new material from the bank to experiments every time:

Saint,, Ivan,,:

I still have to explore the excavations in "Mesembria", now it is called "Nesebar", It is the former "Thrace", under Greece.  I own their coins.  However, visiting the museum and the excavations is certainly a numismatic little dream.  and I don't take a picture and put it here.  I also want to buy some coins if there are any.

Ahoj Ivan.

I'm glad to hear that you collect Bulgarian banknotes.  The old issues of the new lev didn't had so many protective elements because the technology back then weren't so good as they are now. One of the banknotes design ( that of 10 leva)duplicates the previous 1998 issues with a value of 10,000 leva which was before the exchange of the old to new leva which was roughly 1000 to 1 new lev.

The new 50 leva issues of 2019 has more protetive elements than the 2006 issue.

Can I ask from what coins are you interested of collecting / buying?

The question is interesting:

,, According to the plan, I want really ancient coins from the cradle of minting itself,,

As for Bulgarian coins and banknotes, they are nothing so dazzling and sought after. Even Bulgarian numismatics as a hobby is weak. You won't find numismatic shops all over the coast - and it's not that money is not something that traders like. Only ,, Jordan,, Ronaldo,, and for girls, ,, Princess Anna, t-shirts fly more here.

In our country, "Prague" is visited by tourists. And there are also at least 20 numismatic shops with a wide spectrum of focus.

I will give you a link here tomorrow or on Friday when I have a chance to show what I bought in Bulgaria. I don't plan to pay much attention to Bulgaria, but before I left I gave the collectors the option to exchange on the spot. I would certainly take the medieval "Prague penny" with me - no one reported. I will give you a link here on Friday.

Ivan

Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, I understand that Bulgarian coins and banknotes are not very popular topic for collecting abroad. Probably the only coins that are valued by collectors more are the 1894 and1912 ,100 gold Leva coins. It would be interesting for me to see what you have bought during your visit in our country. You have mentioned that you are also interested at ancient coins ,could you please be more specific?

Zmínil jste, že se zajímáte také o starověké mince, mohl byste být prosím konkrétnější?

Здравейте.

Yes, my main intention is to buy Greek Hellenic and Archaic coins at auctions, as well as Celtic and generally medieval silver.

I am not specific and profiled like most older collectors who focus on one type of coins. I didn't get to that point -and I also like the world's most minted coin, the 1 US cent (i just love him)

,, I only buy coins on our proven sales website from experienced and proven collectors,,- essentially!!

I bought:

N#12360

N#10535

N#6443

N#26824

N#6446

N#12382

All overpriced in a brick and mortar antique shop - a tourist attraction and I bought it regardless of the price just out of nostalgia to bring something home.

I wanted to buy "Byzantine and Greek" Hellenic coins - but no one sold them there. Just embarrassing tourist traps for Germans and stray Americans.

This vendor only had a few medals there.

And inside
In the second store, a couple of Jubilee coins had nothing else anywhere else.

I will take a picture of the coins and put them in the thread for an addition to the collection.

I put it here:

Ahoj .
Thank you for the greeting on Bulgarian language. The coins are from different periods but as you have said the dealers probably sold them to you at much higher price than usual. These is often of the case at the antique shops on the tourist destinations like Nesebar, Pomorie and Sozopol. The real price of the first coins is no more than few leva's for each, regarding the price of 50 Leva 1930 it ranges from minimum of 9-10 Leva in circulated condition to 35-100 Leva in Mint condition. Every collector buys something as souvenir from he's holiday. I have also been at Nesebar ,but 15 yares ago . Back then there were plenty of ancient coins, greek ,roman, byzantine for sale but again on much higher price than one might expect to find. Now they only sale coins and medals for few dollars with a price for tourists.  Such coins as the one you're looking for could be found from collectors not from dealers.
