I would like to share photos on Dropbox by putting the photo link in an excel file.

Any attempt I make to share pictures is unefficient, I always get the same info: “You alaone get access”

So when I create the hypertext link, it is impossible to access the photos and yet I have selected the "share with all those who have the link" mode.

It annoys me

This is what I do.  I don't mess with “Who can access”.  I just use the “copy link” option.

Works when that link is in excel file, too.

I copied the link in this:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ksr1bx6wjgz5s4b6gjuum/POLY-1.jpg?rlkey=hbdl58ddjbiwt7su03n0f3y08&dl=0

to browser and it worked fine.  Also worked fine when I put it in an excel file. So not a permission issue. I'd look to your excel file.

So not a permission issue. I'd look to your excel file.

May be a permission parameter in Excel ?

Then it works for Numista

And not for dropbox

Possible. I had no problems adding your link to an excel file. It opens fine in multiple browsers so not a Dropbox problem.  I can't reproduce it so I can't tell what is causing it.

Edit: You edited your post as I was writing.

If the Numista link works then I'm not sure what's going on. The fact that I (and anyone) that clicks the link I posted can open it but not from the excel file is strange.

May be cause I use Excel 2007, I got rid of office 2021 due to problems with a large file that was much better handled by word 2007

Quote French forum : You're talking about IT progress! (Part-2)

Part-1: The struggle with word:

I made a (large) word file of cooking recipes.

1100 pages, 3.2 million characters, a million words, approximately 3000 photos compressed at 200dpi (you have to print sometimes), a table of contents of 2700 entries (which I sort in alphabetical order in Excel because Word doesn't know not do), the whole thing weighs 100 MB.

Well… it's big and I should perhaps have used Access but when you start in one way it's harder to change.

I played quietly with my file in Word 2007 until I switched to Word 2021 which is completely lost with my large file (even saved in incompatible mode). It's to die for, more than half an hour to print 5 pages, crazy opening time, updating the table of contents you have time to go eat and have coffee, etc...

Well… I went back to Word 2007 🤨

What happens when you click on cell A2 in this sheet?

I'm using excel 2019. Let me fire up the desktop with 2010 version and see what happens.

OK figured it out, sort of.  You were right. Excel 2007 can't handle the dropbox style link format.  This is what I got with Excel 2010:

Same as your error. The Numista link in my excel file works.  The good news is that if the person you send the file to has a recent version of excel it should work fine.

You can also add your pictures to Numista and use those links instead.

Thanks for the tip

I'll do that 🙂
