50 Francs Napoleon 1863 A

Hi everyone,

I came across this 50 Francs Napoleon 1863. But, after hours of researching, I could not find any “log” of that coin being manufacturer at Monnaie de Paris (A). Only BB seems to be existing for that year. N#11338

Therefore, heavily questioning myself that this might be a false.

Any insight ? Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome aboard 😀

The manufacturer made a coin that didn't exist in order not to deceive a coin collector.

If a similar genuine coin was not produced, we call that an “evocation”.

Usually such “evocations” are not  in gold 900 ‰.

Any jeweler can test your coin for gold purity.

Thanks for the fast answer, that would explain why the coin is 16.7g instead of 16.12903g as it should. And that the gold is only a coating.

Here is the documentation of the real coin from K&M
