Good evening, the reason for my message is to request the creation of the following Princely and Feudatory States that I did not find on this page:

- Princely State of Sirohi
- Princely State of Las Bela
- Princely State of Ladakh
- Princely State of Nabha
- Princely State of Kalsia
- Princely State of Sirmur
- Princely State of Hansi
- Princely State of Bhadaur (https://www.sikhcoins.in/showphoto.php?photo=1160&title=bhadaur-2c-raja-chuhr-singh-2c-rupee&cat=574)

In Feudatories I have seen that some are in subsections of their state, but others are included in the state but without being a subsection, and others do not even appear. An example is the feudatories of Basmatnagar and Elichpur of Hyderabad which do have their subsections. Still, on the other hand, there are Wanparti and Aurangabad, which are only found within the State of Hyderabad as another currency, without their subsection. Therefore I request the creation of the following:

- Feudatory of Hyderabad-Aurangabad
- Feudatory of Hyderabad-Wanparti
- Feudatory of Hyderabad-Bahiri
- Feudatory of Hyderabad-Narayanpett
- Feudatory of Hyderabad-Gadwal
- Feudatory of Hyderabad-Firoznagar
- Feudatory of Mewar-Salumba
- Feudatory of Mewar-Bhinda
- Feudatory of Mewar-Shahpur
- Feudatory of Indore-Mehidpur
- Feudatory of Bhopal-Narsingarh

I would also like to see the Principality of Zebabad added to the section on Independent Kingdoms, and to separate the Kingdom of Banglana from the Mughal Empire.

Returning to the subject of princely states. I would like to see if there is a possibility of creating the Princely State of Sunth and removing that of Rampur, since the book "Heritage of Gujarat through Coins: The Princely States of Chhota Udepur, Deogarh Baria, Lunavada and Sunth" indicates that as such the state of Rampur never minted coins. Which in reality are from Sunth since its capital was Rampur.

I await your support.

We'll probably need help of @sujit_kumar  here :-)

Hi,

Most of these states were created more than 7/8 years back (maybe before that) based on our users who added their coins to Numista catalog based on one of the reference books. There are many discrepancies that exists between the reference books, and some of them (like KM#) are highly inaccurate. Many of reference books are rectifying their entries on their subsequent editions of their books. So it is not very surprising to find issues with Numista entries specifically for Indian Kingdoms and States. These Kingdoms constantly were changing their territories, often overlapping with one another. Also the coin minting did not always were accurate on current rulers, many coins were minted many many years after the death of the ruler (example Majaraja Ranjit Singh of Punjab) who were particularly influential.

In terms of creating new state in Numista, I would suggest creating them if we have atleast 4/5 entries for that state or kingdom. Rest i leave it to your judgement.

Regards…

Sujit

But which ones do we need today ?

We create issuers even for 1 coin only btw :-)

Bump - do we need any of these now?

Perfect I saw this thread actually, as I was just going to put a request for Hyderabad - Gadwal. Here is a Gadwal coin that I have found online that we can add and there are more types that were issued, that we can add overtime.

Gadwal was a small feudatory Telugu state under the Nizams, whose king was actually killed in battle if memory serves.

The coins issued by Indian Princely State of Sunth (or Sant or Sant Rampur, the latter was the capital) are currently wrongly classified under Princely State of Rampur https://en.numista.com/catalogue/rampur_princely-1.html

IPS Rampur was in present day state of Uttar Pradesh (Rampur State - Wikipedia) established in 1774 CE whereas Sunth / Sant / Sant Rampur was in the present day state of Gujarat and established in 1255 CE https://www.indianrajputs.com/view/sant

To continue from my earlier post and to provide further clarification:

1. IPS Rampur and IPS Sunth were approx. 1,000 km apart

2. IPS Rampur and IPS Sunth were established 500 years apart

We should have a separate list for IPS Sunth (to which the coins currently listed under IPS Rampur should be transferred). The current listing of IPS Rampur  may continue as a separate listing.

I have discussed this with sujit_kumar and he agrees that both IPS Rampur and Sunth should be listed separately and distinctly.

Hello!

Is this being considered?

Should it be a separate thread, is any more information required to carry out the change?

There is also a separate thread for ips  las Bela

Admins: please look into this and fix.

Thank you

Princely States were those under the suzerainty of the British Crown.

Examples include Mysore from 1799 & Hyderabad from after around 1857.

Hyderabad was a subsidiary ally of the British from 1768 (Treaty of Masulipatam) and a lot of the Princely States mentioned here (and in other sources) are those that eventually fell under British suzerainty.
