Isle of Man Crowns

I live in Blackpool and sadly there aren’t any coin shops nearby .  This means that my resources are mainly Swaps ( which has virtually  become non existent ) and EBay, which are too expensive.

I collect Crown Coins which makes it even more niche . Does anyone know where I can get Isle of Man/ Dependencies  Crown coins at reasonable prices .  I happy to swap coins from my collection if anyone has crowns they want to swap .

many thanks

Hello,

IOM crowns from years ’80 are relativly cheap now. After 1990, the coins has been minted in much smaller quantities (not all of course) so this makes that these crowns are more expensive (again, not all). I live out of UK so eBay remain my main source of next addings to the collection, even the shipping costs and duties increased a lot after brexit.

I propose you to search for auctions with bigger lots for sale (whole sets or multiple coins at one auction) or to search seller who is selling a lot of items so you can save on shipping. Sometimes they can give you a discount if you buy more coins at once.

But in general, numismatics is not a cheap hobby, specially if you are collecting commemorative & collector coins and not the pieces from circulation.

Chards is an excellent coin shop in Blackpool,

Thanks O

That is certainly easy to get to from Blackpool …it’ll be a bit chilly at this time of year 😉 tho

Coin dealers are scarce in Lancashire I’ve not come across many. A good idea is to go to the coin fairs held in Huddersfield every month, there is always something to suit every collector at reasonable prices.

They cost 1 Quid each in the Isle of Man  where there is a a thriving collector community who now live in despair  at the large number of coins marketed by westminister. Would encourage you to visit it once as you get good airfare deals on the budget airlines  from UK.I would love to go again  ( as I  had found someone how had a hoard of the  2 Pounds 3 car types but I forgot to check if any were the rare Queen third portrait type ie KM 844 ) but for me its a visa plus airfare to UK as a well which is too expensive…  The people I  know do not  mail unfortunately as they have retired but will help if you visit the Island . I do have current numismatic   contacts but those are expensive like the IOM post office and other coin shops there.  UK is local mail for you. I have to shell out over 12 pounds every time .  The Isle of Man is perhaps the most beautiful part of the British Isles  ( I have  not been to Cornwall)   and people are the  friendliest in the British Isles.

Ok you convinced me to visit …..used to be a ferry from Fleetwood…doesnt run anymore.

its ironic they are many more coins from IOM than countries ten times their size.
