Byzantine gold solidus of what emperor?

9 posts • viewed 99 times

Hello, friends!

Please, can you identify & evaluate this byzantine gold coin?! I believe it is a “solidus”, but not sure what emperor it belongs to!?! Is it Heraclius & his son?! The coin's weight is 4,44 g.

Also, what preservation state would you put on it?

Many thanks for any help!

You're correct, it' Heraclius and his son: N#297190

I think your coin is in a very good shape, it barely has any wear.

Thanks for confirmation!

But, please, VALUE?!

I found a couple of examples on ebay at about 900 euro.

400 to 700 euros according to Katz sales but I'm no expert.

This has nothing to do with the questions asked but thought I'd share. I took these pictures while in the museum at the Acropolis of Athens.

This could be a very nice advent calendar. 🙂
