Morgan 1879

5 posts • viewed 110 times

Hi everyone,

I have a 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar in excellent condition, with strong details and minimal wear. It hasn’t been professionally graded, but based on comparisons, it seems to be in uncirculated or near-uncirculated condition.

I wanted to ask:

• What would be a fair market price for this coin?

• Would it be worth getting it graded by PCGS/NGC, or would that just cut into my profit?

• Any recommendations on the best place to sell it?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If you check out the catalog value from the Km110 number you will find prices, also there are 2 reverses of the coin - you need to first establish which version you have. Price guide at NGC.com, information on reverse on Numista coin page under comments.

If your intention is to sell the coin, the outcome of which reverse you have should determine whether you have it graded or not. Grading will give you a professional grade to lever to the catalog price while also receiving authentication of the coin.

As for where to sell it, eBay, coin store, auction house, pawn shop, garage sale, take your pick.
