Beer Stein Lid Coin

5 posts • viewed 67 times

I have a 200 yr. old beer stein with a patch of leather over a coin on the lid. I can barely made out some markings by using lights and magnifying glasses. Any help as to age, value, and where it originated would be appreciated.

I guess it could also be a medal. Will keep looking.

Your picture [from elsewhere] rotated and cropped …

What is the coin/medal diameter?

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

Need better pictures - no flash and ideally outdoors -

so the lettering on the right can be seen. May be Saint Francis of course.

Can not even see if that is a standing figure, or a portrait facing left.

Guessing the underside is not viewable? Help us to help you.

Sorry but that is good as it gets, the drawing is the most info I can get out of what I can see. I do have excellent camera equipment and did not use a flash. Side lighting only and close up macro lenses. I also tried magnifying glass, with lights, and could add a little more detail to the drawing. The underside is solid pewter. By my drawing it is a figure setting, facing to your left. It appears to have a staff and maybe a crown or hat on the person's head. Thanks for your interest
