This series is dedicated to the Provincial Capital cities and Autonomous Cities of Spain. Spain's territorial division comprises 17 Autonomous Communities (encompassing 50 provinces) and two autonomous cities (Ceuta and Melilla). Each of its 50 provinces is made up of municipalities (cities), one of which is the provincial capital, usually bearing the same name as the province itself.
The series comprises fifty-two (50 provincial capitals and 2 autonomous cities) 5 Euro silver (.925) coins minted by the Royal Mint of Madrid with same dimensions and characteristics, showing on the obverse the coat of arms of the city and on the reverse some characteristic element.
