I started to like the idea of storing some of my coins in 2x2 coin holders. I like the way how the coins are protected, how all coins have the same dimensions fitting in standardized albums or cases, possibility to write/print labels etc.
I was just curious what do you think what is better: self-adhesive or holders for stapling? I can see following differences: self-adhesive are air-sealed (somebody think it is good, others not), but there is a glue used, which can possibly be made of harmful material to coins (I don't know) - due to evaporation of some toxic chemicals over time?
I use those lighthouse self adhesive's, easier and neater without staples. Some will argue the chemicals are bad - I don't know if there is any evidence? I've seen staples go rusty, so you'd need decent ones, and a stapler which staples flat.
The self adhesive ones have a hell of a stick too... The card is more likely to tear than the glue letting loose!
I buy mine from eBay - cheaper and they usually do mixes of various sizes for starter packs etc.
I use the staple variety. They are just easier to come by in my parts without having to order them. My biggest complaint is that over time they wear marks into the pages.
I have it down to only using 3 staples per car though. Cleaner look, and just a little bit cheaper.

I have some staple varieties, but I prefer the self-adhesives. It's faster, to me it looks more clean and the third, I found out it's easier to put them in a map.

I use the self adhesive ones, the down side is if you find a better copy of your coin, you can't replace it without ruining the holder, whereas with the staple ones you can remove the staples and then re-staple.

I also use the staple variety but only use 2 staples per holder. As Neil said, I prefer to have the option to remove the coin from the holder if I wish. By only using 2 staples, I am able to staple the holder before the coin goes in because I get very nervous with metal staplers getting too near to coins. Recently, I received a lot of 3 coins from an eBay seller using the method of 2 layers of plastic and staples around the coins to stop them moving around but the rims of the coins had some suspicious scratch marks on the rims.
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
I used to use self adhesive and they do look great, however these days if I use flips I stapled types. Now I prefer the plastic flips where I can write details one side and the coin another and hold em in hand more.
Thank you all for help! I will maybe use self-adhesive holders, because they are better-looking and also don't let the air inside. What is the think I still don't like about holders is that they cannot hold larger coins than 39,5 mm. I know it is sufficient almost all the times, but several coins I have/would like to have are slightly bigger.

I use the stapled holders (Hartberger or Leuchtturm/Lighthouse) . If one uses small staples (#10 or 10/5) then these holders look neat enough. I also press staples with pliers so that they are flat and don't spoil the album's page. The benefits are several: holders are cheaper, they hold better (on thick and big coins self-adhesive holders often self open and coins tarnish near the rim on one side), could be reopened (to take the coin out for scanning, weighting or close inspection of the rim) and later closed again.

Quote: JomiboI use the self adhesive ones as I think they look neater. They look horrible with loads of staples through them!
I use the non-adhesive and just put scotch tape on the edges instead of stapling. You can reuse them if needed and they're not full of holes Lately I've been using airtite holders instead of 2x2's.
