Im new, and while im trading coins i try and be fair with whoever im trading them with so id just like to hear some clarification on what accounts as a 'fair deal'.
Like, for the first few trades i have done ive tried to match coin for coin as much as possible, so for each coin they offer i offer one of my own. This is kinda okay, but often im giving like $5+ worth of actual currency on top of postage which is expensive here, in essence i don't know if im getting a good deal.
So what do you trade for?
Weight for Weight
Value for Value
Rarity for Rarity
Coin for Coin
* All low value current currencies (euro, dollar, pound) also one-to-one, exept higher denominations. 1euro and 2euro need to get back similar value, i wouldnt give them for 1eurocent coin, because it would be like paying 2euros for a common 1cent, which is so not worth that price, if you catch my drift.
Coins that are higher in value or harder to get i try to exchange for similar value.
Silver - i dont need to get silver for silver only, but it must be similar value.
If my coin in swaplist is not for the regular one-to-one swap, i sometimes try to write it into comment box by that swap coin, so that anyone wanting it would know it.
However some people dont check comments or try to rip another one off. Do not be afraid to say if you are not happy with the swap. doesn't matter if you are new or not.
If you are not happy with swap dont confirm! There is also nothing wrong with turning down swap.
Different people have different ideas of fair deal and different people have different ways of swaping coins.
Read a profile of a person before suggesting swap, often we write there exactly what we expect:)
You could do the same.
I generally swap one-for-one, with silver for silver only. Coin collecting is my hobby and I don't want to spend time finely grading and pricing each of my 7700 duplicates. It's just a simply not willing to invest the time issue for me.
I swap all different ways. but regarding postage then to me the only to make it worth while if the postage is expensive is the make the swap for a descent amount of coins or at least a coin of descent value. I have also swapped over 100 coins to get maybe a couple of coins that I want or like. Also I had one request for around 60+ coins (one having a value of over $90), I selected a lot of 2 euro cc's which I thought was well under the value of the coins that he/she had selected but they offered only 9x 2 euro cc's. Needless to say I promptly turned this swap down after informing them of the value of just one coin.
So as you can see you will come across many variations while swapping.
My advice is simply work it out for yourself if it suits you and your swap partner then go for it, if it doesn't then simply explain why you have turned the swap down.
I'm sure you will find your way and a happy medium and lots of advice from fellow members.
