George III Penny/token Britannia facing right [solved]

This coin/token intrigues me because it shows Britannia facing right with date below. As far as I can make out the date is 1800 and the 8 looks overstruck.

Has anyone anything similar or can anyone identify it?

Roy

Metal: Copper
Weight: 15.73
Size: 33.90
Thickness 2.30

I have also incorporated an image of the edge

Reverse with date under Britannia was not used on British penny until Victoria, The Obverse appears to be similar to the 1806-1807 penny, Britannia did not face right until George IV.

I say the penny because early pennies were 35mm.

It is like 3 coins in one, possible contemporary/Commemorative coin?

Hey Roy looks like an odd 1/2 penny like UK KM# 647 or 662, but are not the same. But your Britannia is facing wrong way. Have you tried looking at tokens 1/2 penny. It is the right size for George III 1/2 pennys. I know the KM # 647 is about same size and date on back, but Britannia is facing left. Good luck and let us know what you find.

It is, what it is, or is it.
I have been looking at the Britannia side of the coin/token and can make out the letters

I R N D

which could be IRELAND but this would be unusual because Ireland was referred to as HIBERNIA although in 1800 England and Ireland became the "United Kingdom". So this could be some form of commemorative.

That sure is an odd one. Please post if you find anything. I am very interested.

I've seen old pennies like this with Ireland in the legend not much help here but the date appears to read 1822 which makes me wonder if it's been restruck possibly ?

I thought it looked like 22 as well.

If it was Irish then I would assume it would have the Harp, not Britannia?

I am not sure if it is anything other than some form of commemorative or pattern design.
George III obverse, George IV Reverse and same size as a early the early Victorian penny which is 34mm but slightly lighter.

Your comment on the date was interesting so I have enclosed a scan of the date area so others can give their opinion. If it is 1822 then it raises the question as to whose portrait is on the observe!

Roy
Is it just me, or does the portrait side look a bit tooled here and there ?
Eureka - Found it in "British Copper Tokens" by Withers

Roy that is very interesting . And very odd. Thank you for sharing.
