I am new here, I am just testing the site after using Ucoin for a couple of months.
Ucoin is also great, the PDF overview per country is very nice to have a look of what you're still missing from a specific period.
But I notice that Numista has a lot more coins/countries, and is free (Ucoin has an optional Pro Account).
Are there other good reasons to migrate all my collection data to Numista? Or ist is Ucoin in my case better just because I am located in Germany? What about the collectors in Europe? Do you guys update your collections in multiple sites?
Anyway, the real question is about the swaps: I have tried the Ucoin swap three times, and it was very easy, you just try to select coins until your wish list matches (in price) the one of your partner. It seems fair altough the prices are of course sometimes arbitrary.
But in Numista you have no prices, right? So you have to check all your swaps? That seems like a lot of effort.. Am I missing something?
I guess I have no time to update my data consistently in both sites (coins/swaps/grade/prices).
I would be happy to receive any tipps or advices about this!
I found UCoin a very appealing website.
However, it lacks some periods, a huge amount of coins, and it is not that swap-friendly as Numista, especially to track missing coins worldwide.
You are correct, there are no prices (not even reference prices) on Numista. For beginners, it might be difficult to realise whether if the swap is fair or not.
The only thing that Ucoin have "better" than numista is that interface that give a estimate value of each coin, anything else is a nigthmare, sorry for my honesty.
I have suggested in the past that we should be able to see the grade that is assigned to a coin in the swap page. this would save a lot of time for people when they are looking for Unc, or if someone only collects EF and above. In addition, wouldn't it be great if we could enter the value we want to receive for our coins and that would show up too, it would save a ton of time. It could appear as a number right next to the Note icon in the swap list.
We could even add a few different currency's if we wanted to make it easier for our potential swap partners.
So when you viewed my swap list it would read like
"2 Euro (Bundesländer - "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern") - KM# 260 2007 F1 UNC$5 or £3.50"
Does this make since, I am bad at getting my idea in written form?
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

It will also keep a tally of you collection value, that is until you entered your 500th coin. Then you need to pay $4 per month subscription to see your total collection value.
If you care about the value of the coins that you're giving/getting and are exchanging coins of a decent value then I would always check anyway. You need to check people have graded their coins the same as you would, to check that the values are accurate. There's nothing worse than getting coins that people have graded at VF to find they're only VG-F...especially if there's a big jump in value between grades.
If you're swapping lower value coins then what does it matter? If you get the coins you want does it matter if your swapping partner gets some that are worth a few dollars more?
Thank you. I have been here long enough to understand how swapping works here. My interest in the value of my collection is for purposes other than swapping, like insurance.
Well, if anyone need some help with México coin prices (REAL coin prices, like in the market of México) you can ask me, not Krauze catalogues, those prices can be useful for some coins, but others are quite crazy or quite cheap, i'll try to help whenever i can
