Reorganising pre-1795 Poland & Lithuania

5 posts
I would like to reorganise Polish and Lithuanian coins from before 1795 with the following actions:
  • Move all Polish and Lithuanian pre-1795 coins to Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, including the ones from before 1569 (Union of Lublin)
  • Generate the following sub-currencies within the PLC: Lithuania, Poland, Gdansk, Ryga, Elblag and Torunn

The existing Danzig listings from after 1795 can stay with Danzig. Polish coins from Congress Poland, Free City of Krakow and Duchy of Warsaw can stay with Poland.

We might need to update some 'see also' links as well.

Curious to hear your opinions!
1. Disagree - they were not unified until 1569. Even though there have been personal union from 1385, these coinages should be held separately. Analogical to how Bohemia - Austria(Habsburg) -Hungary (Habsburg) is handled.

Cleanup is needed - so we do not have same coins in both and ones in wrong states.

See Also links would be great though!

2. Very much agree in principe.

We have to put referees of these countries to the debate. Good luck with Lavrenty though, he does not seem overly active - no forum post ever... bah, it really would not be bad if there were two referees for some big countries. Not everybody has a time to be here all the time.

Move this one to Lithuania?

I believe it will be confusing if not put with the union.
Hmm, in that you are right. We need some more permanent solution.

I created a new currency within the PLC:

Riga - Grossus (1582-1629)

And requested to move all PLC coins minted in Riga to this section.

For Gdansk this will be more complicated, as the monetary system changed over time.
