I recently made requests to Numista members to start an exchange, but after 7-9 days, had no reply.
I have my own datum point of 7 days, and if I have not heard from them witin that time scale, I cancel exchange.
I an very disappointed by this continued silence. Members hve the coins listed, but nothing but silence.
What makes it even more disappointing is that I would really like the coins I chose
There was a time i visited numista once a month.
And there was a time i didn't visit numista.
I answered the swap requests very late and i cancelled them all, because i had no time for swaps.
I showed the "sleep-smiley". So everybody could see i was not swapping that time. But requests came.
Just keep on trying and cancel the requests after a month, not after a week. Perhaps you will have more luck.
I've had 1 recently where I was contacted to see if I was interested in a swap, I responded positively and heard nothing back. Another started a swap with me (with no message - which does irk me a little), so I let it go and responded positively, reserved the coins for him and added my own, but then despite me sending 2 further messages to get it moving heard nothing more, so cancelled it again.
Reason number 1: they are not interested in your coins. Though Numista might show that the potential partner might be interested in, let's say, 50 of your coins, in reality he might not be interested in them at all. Want to check it? Right now Numista tells me that you might be interested in 42 of my coins. And how many would you really select if we were swapping?
Reason number 2: people do not visit Numista site very often or are way too busy to do a swap. Some have numismatics rather low on their priority list (especially during the summer) and are not really dying to have an extra swap right now.
Reason number 3: people got a negative experience from previous swaps and prefer to swap only with someone they know and trust. Or swap within their own country/continent only.
My personal statistics: 109 completed swaps for more that 150 offers denied without any discussion and more than 50 offers denied after some discussion. My personal record - 7 successful swaps from 10 offers I've sent, my personal anti-record - 14 offers denied in raw.
Just be patient.

Don't feel bad, it happens to everyone of us I reckon.
The reasons may not be anything sinister - ill health, internet problems, life getting busy or just simply decidng to respond later and then forgetting about it.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

I think that's something we all active member of the forum suffer...
I have noticed guys with plus 200 swaps and very few activity in the forum... then other guys with high forum activity but few swaps. Its really difficult to find out who will be interested or open for swaps nowadays.
Even active swapping members takes forever to respond or creates swaps with no message at all... go figure.
I reckon that those folks with extensive swap lists sometimes get swamped with requests. If you take the time to make a polite response to all of them it's going to take time, if you just close them without comment it's rude.
I tend to move at a pretty glacial pace until I get motivated. For anyone looking for a round of speed swapping, I'm not your man! Most coins are decades or even centuries old, they are not going anywhere. Relax, enjoy yourself.
Can't understand the rush myself, swapping against a deadline seems a lot like work. I've spent a lifetime avoiding work so I doubt I'll ever be doing it as a hobby.

I have only 1 swap to pack and really I am not in a rush for the next one as I still have some coins to put in my collection, arrange some other ones in their respective folder, start to use my new scanner, etc, etc.
This is a full time hobby, but as you mentioned it should not be like work... I haven't touch coins in about 3 weeks and its pretty OK for me...
Sometimes I just don't have the time to reply. I have a bit of a full on lifestyle. Hence why I never have time to get on a computer to browse and it's all done from my phone.
Other times I might read it when im at work then forget to reply. My swaps list is horrific I need it to be wiped ideally so I can start a fresh. It's nothing personal and is the reason I don't want to swap right now is my current profile. It says temporary but it feels like it's more permanent :(
i keep it it open for the small swaps or ones with my friends who understand I'm not a fast swapper so that I can try to broker something.
