Lower Canada's currency was
NOT
a decimal currency.
It went as follows;
1 Sou = 1/2 Penny.
2 Sous = 1 Penny.
12 Pence = 1 Shilling.
20 Shillings = 1 Lower Canadian Pound.
Therefore,the 1 Sou currency tokens circulated as 1/2 Pennies.

That's right, even using tokens, Lower Canada still used the £SD (predecimal) Pound
