with Photoscape (free image editing software) I can easily take the background away on round coins, but how to do if the coin is NOT round or with cuts?
On other topics on here I have seen the name Gimp used. Here is one ... https://en.numista.com/forum/topic39895.html
I have never used it so do not know if it does irregular shapes.

When I became a referee I got GIMP as a free download. I use about 1% of it's capabilities and it is quite effective. I'm sure it can do any shape.

I've used GIMP and find it very good. If your background is contrasting enough from the coin, colour-wise, then it'll do it in three clicks: Selection->Fuzzy Tool->(click on the coin).

My GIMP is in French unfortunately
in my Tools (outils) I do not find Fuzzy tool, which choice from the top could it be? I have this:
Never used it, in either language, but translation is
Outil flou
so maybe in one of those four at the top with ► arrow to right.
I found this French page that mentions flou; not sure if it helps ... https://docs.gimp.org/fr/gimp-tool-convolve.html
'L'outil Flou / Netteté utilise la brosse courante pour rendre flous ou plus nets les contours contenus dans votre image. Il est utile pour rendre floue une petite zone de l'image. Mais pour agir sur de plus grandes zones, mieux vaut utiliser l'un des Filtres de flou. En outre, il n'a pas d'effet directionnel ; pour cela, utilisez l'outil ...'
It's under "Outils de selection" I believe, and I don't know what the French would call it but the little icon for it is a magic wand. I hope that helps!
I get the size of the image with GIMP and then Copy to MS Paint. I fill dark space with MS Paint and then save as JPeg. I am guessing with a square coin there won't be any dark space to fill, so just save.

I have used GIMP for years and I do as follows:
use the select tool (sélection I guess :-), my gimp is also in English.
Then I use the free selection, not rectangle, not ellipse but free shape. Zoom enough and click around the coin.
Then ctrl i ctrl x ctrl i and you get your coin (that means invert selection, cut, invert selection). Then crop image to selection.
Then export as jpg ...
You don't need to fill the background with white, it is automatic when you export.
I have found it was the quickest.
The fuzzy something should be in selection menu, the icon is a "baguette magique". It should be the 4th selection item in the toolbox. But it works only if the contrast between coin and adjacent background is good.
