Hi all
Somebody has mentioned about the new 2016 £1 coin with the variety of the edge where the date is being smooth instead of having the milled lines. (coin rotated 30 degrees)
I found one yesterday on the 2017 as well as the 2016.
Anybody got any more info on the minting process? are the edges milled before/after the obverse/reverse faces are struck. Is it just random like the writing on the edge of the £2 coins? What about rarity?
Don't know about the 2017 coins but with the 2016 coins I looked through over 200 of them and found only 1 with the smooth edge in the position where you described.
So they are fairly un-common. It is interesting to know that there are 2017 coins like that.
Cheers Mike
