Greetings to all! I am relatively new to Numista and I have a question to esteemed members.
Why coins issued for use in French colonies, notably Algeria, located under France? I haven't seen any information relating to use of this coins in the Metropolitan France, so why Krause and Numista list them under France?
l would appreciate you explanation to this phenomenon.
They do have standard French design, but were issued for the Algeria or other countries ? There is no reason for them to be listed in Algeria or whatever country despite that. Same applies to the UK and coinage that was issued in standard UK design, but for its colonies.

I confirm this.
British coins like the 1 and 1/2 pence circulated in colonies, as did some fractional farthings in places like the West Indies, Malta and Ceylon. The only French colonial era coins listed under Algeria or AOF are those that say so specifically on the coin itself.

In regards of the British fractional coinage, issued for use in the colonies it had to be specially decreed for use in UK.
However, there is no evidence of French colonial Coins, of the Metropolitan France type, freely circulating in the mainland.

They are legal tender French issues, just struck specifically to be used in France's colonies, if that is what you are asking; whether any made it to circulate in metropolitan France is a different story.
