Need help with a few Indian coins

4 posts
I picked these 5 up from ebay, along with 7 others that I have successfully identified. The seller didn't provide much info, and I found some of it was wrong on the one's I did ID. There's a chance these just aren't in the numista catalog

1 - Obverse looks a lot like THIS, but I couldn't find anything that matched the back. Seller said 1 Falus from Malwa. Copper, 4.21 grams
2 - Seller said Delhi Turks 1 Jital, Muhammad Bin Sam. Silver or billon, 3.30 grams
3 - Seller said 1 Falus from Malwa. Copper, 7.97 grams
4 - This one is much more worn and damaged. The seller said 1 Dam from Mughal. Copper, 8.88 grams (this one is especially thick, just over 4mm)
5 - I just need help with the third number of the date (bottom line on the coin), THIS is the catalog link
1] It is 1 Falus of Malwa Sultanate - Hoshang Shah, G&G#6
Since these are hammered coins with the coin die being bigger than the coin flan it is difficult to find exact matches of the legend. Also your coin have a different mint mark than that of the numista listing

2] It is 1 jital of Muhammad Bin Sam

3] 1 Falus of Malwa Sultanate - Mahmud Shah II, G&G#172, AH922

4] No idea, but may not be Mughal Dam as they are generally 20gm in weight

5] The third numeral is 4, making the date AH834

Thank you, that really helped me out a lot! On the first one I think the mintmark is the 5th one in the picture HERE. But there's only 4 options to select from

Even if I never get an ID on #4, I think 11 out of 12 on this lot of coins was a pretty good purchase!

Yes the mint mark is the 5th one. Now you can request to add a new line in the numista listing or just select any row and put your comments indicating the mint mark.

The exact significance of these mint marks is not known. It could be just ornamental or could be related to mint place or mint master or coin engraver. The G&G catalog does not even list mint marks for each and every coin type. It just have a 3 pages listing of different mint marks observed on gold, silver and copper coins for each year.
