Rim thickness and reeding questions [solved]

4 posts
Does anyone have an idea about why the shilling on the left has a thicker rim than the other?

The reverse is too worn to see much detail but I have added photos of it anyway.

My other question is about this penny which seems to have been very bad reeded. The strange thing is that it is an Australian penny which was never reeded so I wonder if someone just decided to put lots of scratches along the edge of this coin one day. You can see in the second photo that some of the cuts are irregularly placed on the edge.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Hey Ben,

For the shillings, the coin on the left just looks more worn to me, so the teeth and rim look thicker in comparison to the more intact rim on the right.

For the second coin (the penny) there is no way that is reeding. Reeding does not appear on the rim, only on the edge; so that's definitely the PMD work of someone with too much spare time on their hands IMO.
The penny is definitely someone just getting bored and hacking away at it. I couldn't say on the shilling
What? Me Worry
I would tend to agree with you both.
Thanks for your replies.
