I have a few 1985 US quarters, but one has the D mint mark much further from Washington's hair. Is this a mint error and is it valuable? See the coin on the right compared to the one on the left below.

I believe that the mint mark was stamped into the die by hand, thats why there are some variation and don’t believe it’s an error.

That's right. In fact, given that the dies are replaced so often, you would be lucky to find two with the mint mark in exactly the same place.
