Varieties check list

I recently bought a book about British coins and it had tick lists for the known coins of each denomination actually in the book. I thought this a bit odd. Is this something that others would like to see in books concerning coins they collect?

well - personally, I would never actually write in a book,
but I can't object to an author including such a list.

I mean I can definitely see why someone might include it in a book meant for collectors, to be used as a kind of log; but in the digital age, with tools like Numista, the need for such a thing in print is mostly moot now.

Thanks for your replies, I think they are a little pointless for a modern book.
