Airport charity boxes.

Hi All. Any of ye sad enough to spend time staring into those big, plastic charity coin and note boxes at airports? If so what was the best coin you have seen in it? A couple of years back I saw this Vatican coin in the box at Dublin airport.

I once saw a victorian sixpence in a charity box at the bank.
If you go on ebay you can find charity auctions for large joblots of world coins to bid on :P
Good idea if you ask me.

There was a Football Olympic 50p in one of those bins at Gatwick when I flew out to the french Alps. That one thing essentially ruined the holiday as it was the last one I needed to complete the set.
Several years ago, passing through a international airport, I also noticed that people were dumping the excess coins from the countries they had just come from in these boxes. I contacted the main offices of several of these charities, and inquired if they could exchange these coins for US currency.. Their reply was no, they just trashed them. So, I offered to give the current exchange rate, plus 10%, and they accepted. That's how my collection grew quite rapidly for a couple of years .. Got some really neat coins and some rare ones to boot ..

You haven't lived Mr. Midnight. I mean, as jimpop mentioned, there's no better way to annoy yourself before you go on holidays.
