Hello! I'm new.
To introduce myself and my knowledge level, I collected coins as a kid (30+ years ago) as a hobby. I was as serious as a grade school kid with a passing interest in collecting could be about it, which is to say I learned about grading and I have a few uncommon coins, probably nothing rare.
I still have some of those coins, and I'll probably catalog and continue to collect at about that level, but I've gotten a little more serious about collecting something much less expensive and much less rare: Arcade Tokens. I'm working at an electronic entertainment museum (er, well, I started the museum) and I realised I had a pretty good collection of tokens so I started building an exhibit out of them.
While I'm at it, I want to contribute photos and information where-ever I can. I see arcadetoken.net has something good going. I don't know that Numista cares about the past history of each facility that provided a token, or perhaps better said: I'm not sure how much of this information should be provided on Numista, and how much of it should just be linked to. Also it looks like there are a few different places to provide links and references, and I want to Do It Right.
My end goal, of course, is to be able to have my entire token collection available on Numista so that people can browse it, and if people wanted to, they could even come to my museum and ask to see a particular token (we already share links to our collections on other sites like RFGeneration and Discogs). We'd like to place a kiosk or tablet with the exhibit so people can get information on the coins, it would be a bonus if we could just have the tablet accessing our collection in Numista instead of having to build an entire web portal just for our collection.
From what little browsing I've done I believe Xavier has built the site all on his own, and then there are dozens of moderators and tons of editors. Referees are the people that manage certain collections and sections of the site and try to keep the data sane. Also I know that I am able to submit data myself, the reason I would like to work directly with anyone who wants to work with me -- especially some of the Token/Exonumia referees, I imagine -- is because I want to get on the fast track to providing quality data as soon as possible. I think if (relevant) staffers understand my intentions, it will minimize rejections and hopefully I can get good feedback to continue improving my submissions. COVID-19 has provided me a unique opportunity to work on this with a fairly low amount of interruption and I want to take advantage of that.
Last but not least, I'm very keen to try out the swaps feature once I flesh out my collection, and looking specifically for tokens to add to the exhibit, so if anyone has any they'd like to trade or donate, please send me a message!
Thanks for reading my post, and looking forward to meeting anyone who wants to help!
