(en) On 1811 started on Uruguay, the revolution against Spain Colonial regimen, so several coins were issued to celebrate the anniversary. Jos{e Gervasio Artigas was the main leader of the Revolution, and is considered the most important hero of the country.
Only 1 drawing was made in presence of Artigas, when he was 82 years old; therefore other artists only could think of the real aspect of Artigas; the drawings made using coal technique by Juan Manuel Blanes is considered the most accurate image, and used on coins.

This issue was minted in Kmemnica, Poland.
