Roland Garros,
Fransız havacı ve Birinci Dünya Savaşı'nda teğmen pilottu. 6 Ekim 1888'de Saint-Denis de La Réunion'da doğdu ve 5 Ekim 1918'de Ardennes'deki Vouziers'de bir hava savaşında öldü.
Ünü öncelikle havadaki sportif başarılarından, özellikle de 23 Eylül 1913'te tek kanatlı bir uçakla gerçekleştirdiği Akdeniz'in ilk geçişinden kaynaklanıyordu.

Doğumunun yüzüncü yıldönümü anısına madeni para.
Akdeniz'i ilk kez 1913 yılında geçmiştir.
